The office building, W16, designed by Hugo van Kuyck, built in 1958 for SNCI, is located on Boulevard de Waterloo, in a commercial area renowned for its luxury boutiques. In this part of the city, along the "little belt" where a continuous stream of cars flows, one passes through different old quarters where hotels and shopping centres alternate in a multicultural puzzle. This office building is based on the presence of several prominent architectural elements. It is a reminiscence of the glory days of the 1960s. The combination of contemporary architecture with the existing style has breathed new life into this building. In 2009 Waterloo 16, as well as the Bâtiment de l’Horloge at the back, was completely renovated and extended with an office area of 10,500m². The two structures were also linked while the enclosed inner area became an atrium. A new façade was also designed at the time, with a commercial section on the ground floor and offices on the upper floors. By its design, the facade is intended to integrate into the immediate environment while being more attractive by its more contemporary style. By arranging the glass panels in a particular way, a vertical level was created that makes the building less imposing. Ultimately, it forms a kind of oasis of stillness in the midst of the constant urban flow. The office building is located on a prime location that is very well connected to public transportation nearby. At the foot of the building, you will find the Porte de Namur metro station, which is well connected to the Gare du Midi station, and many bus and tram lines.
